Oxfordshire plays leading role in Britain achieving 95 per cent superfast broadband target

Oxfordshire has been praised for its part in the roll-out of superfast broadband as central Government today confirmed it had reached its target of making the technology available to 95 per cent of the UK's households and premises - this milestone was reached in Oxfordshire in December.

More than 95 per cent of Oxfordshire premises are now able to get superfast broadband - and more than 50 per cent are already using it. Oxfordshire residents and businesses are looking forward to a fibre-filled Christmas, according to new figures announced today by the Better Broadband for Oxfordshire (BBfO) partnership.

Openreach is providing ultrafast broadband to around 3,500 new homes across Oxfordshire as part of an initiative agreed with the UK Government and the Home Builders Federation to connect all new UK housing developments of 30 properties or more with ultrafast fibre broadband.

Goosey quick! The tiny Oxfordshire village of Goosey Wick will be the first to benefit from a new £600,000 Oxfordshire faster broadband fund, led by Oxfordshire County Council and Openreach, as part of the Better Broadband for Oxfordshire programme. The county council hopes other remote communities, who are not part of any public or private sector upgrade roll-out, will follow suit.
